Strange Incident at WNBA Game
This week, a Chicago Sky basketball game took an unexpected turn when a peculiar object was thrown onto the court in the final moments. It was a sex toy—specifically, a purple one—disrupting the game as Atlanta Dream led 86-65. Watching the clips online, it’s hard to figure out what even prompted that, right?
Interestingly enough, this isn’t an isolated incident. There were reports of two arrests related to a spate of similar disruptions. Just a few moments before the final chaos, another adult toy had reportedly been thrown but didn’t make it to the court, landing instead by the Dream’s bench.
Security at Wintrust Arena detained the suspect, but ultimately, they were released. Local news organizations mentioned it, citing sources from the league.
Over the last week and a half, at least six WNBA games have experienced these strange disruptions, starting with an event in Atlanta on July 29. There was also a truly close call on August 1 in Chicago against Indiana Fever, and again on Thursday in a different matchup.
There was even a report of someone trying to do the same in games held in New York and Phoenix. While those did not reach the court, one 18-year-old man faced charges after attempting it in Phoenix.
One head coach expressed his frustration, calling the entire situation “stupid.” According to police statements, the prankster claimed they were inspired by social media trends. They now face serious charges, including disorderly conduct and public indecency. Another arrest in connection with the Atlanta incident has led to multiple charges as well.
Following these events, the league issued a stern statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety in arenas. They firmly stated that anyone throwing objects could face a significant ban and possible legal action.
Players and coaches aren’t quite sure what to make of it. It’s definitely concerning for the sport and the fans involved. But frankly, who even thinks to do something like that during a game? It’s just bizarre.
