A shocking video captured the moment when a minivan collided with a tractor trailer making a dangerous and illegal U-turn on a Florida highway last week.
This tragic incident happened around 3 p.m. on Tuesday along the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce. The driver of the tractor trailer reportedly crossed the highway, attempting to turn left over the median via a restricted access point.
The truck ended up blocking all lanes of traffic as it moved over the median. Footage recorded from a nearby vehicle revealed that the driver faced no chance to stop or steer clear of the impending crash.
In just seconds, the minivan struck the trailer at high speed, becoming lodged underneath it.
Images from the scene depict the van in such a mangled state that it seemed almost obliterated, with debris scattered across the highway.
Inside the truck, Harjinder Singh appeared unfazed by the catastrophic events unfolding outside. As he glanced through the window, he watched the minivan speed toward the trailer. When the impact occurred, he reportedly stayed composed, turning off the engine without changing his expression.
Following the wreck, extra footage showed rescuers using equipment to lift the trailer off the minivan, which unveiled wreckage and trapped passengers. Singh stood to the side, observing without any visible emotion.
Sadly, two passengers in the minivan died instantly, while the driver was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The identities of the victims, including a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, a 30-year-old man from Florida, and a 54-year-old man from Miami, have not been publicly disclosed.
Singh is now in Florida custody, facing multiple counts of vehicle homicide.
Furthermore, immigration authorities have placed him in detention, as it was determined he has been living in the United States illegally since 2018 after crossing from Mexico.
The exact country of origin for Singh remains unclear.
He held a California commercial driver’s license at the time of the incident.
If convicted, he will be deported after serving any potential prison sentence in Florida.
“The recklessness displayed resulted in three tragic deaths, leaving countless friends and family to grapple with their loss,” remarked Dave Kerner, Florida’s executive director of highway safety and automobiles. “Harjinder Singh is now detained facing serious charges, ensuring he poses no further threat to residents or visitors in Florida,” he added.
