Drone Attack Targets Greta Thunberg’s Activist Fleet
Organizers have reported that a drone targeted and struck the leading boat of an aid fleet led by activist Greta Thunberg.
This incident occurred on “family boats” registered under the Portuguese flag while they were in Tunisian waters. A statement was shared on Monday detailing the event.
The committee, which includes Thunberg and other activists, was at the Sidi Bou port in Tunisia when the drone attack took place, according to some reports.
The main deck and storage area of the boat experienced significant fire damage, as noted by the group.
Fortunately, all six passengers and crew members are safe, as confirmed by authorities.
Footage released by the group showed two people running frantically around the boat after the drone reportedly struck, creating a flash of light.
Additional videos on social media captured a person shouting, “There’s a fire on the front deck,” as flames erupted from the vessel.
Thunberg, who is 22 years old, was part of a flotilla consisting of 20 boats that left Barcelona for Gaza on August 31. This mission was described as the “largest solidarity mission” ever, though Israel issued threats to arrest her and the other activists.
Prior to the departure, Thunberg expressed her views, arguing that the mission represented “a global uprising of the people.” She emphasized that aggression aimed at derailing their efforts would not deter them from their goal to assist the people of Gaza.
The incident is currently under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
