Despite previous controversies regarding the way the NHL managed sexual assault allegations against him during his time with the Blackhawks, reports indicate that the Ducks are considering Joel Quenneville as their next head coach.
Anaheim has been examining his history and has spoken with advocacy programs and a former Blackhawk who was allegedly assaulted. The team’s management believes that Quenneville has made the necessary changes to learn from past events. All ESPN.
Quenneville is recognized as one of the most successful coaches in NHL history, leading the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup titles in 2010, 2013, and 2015, and he sits second in regular-season wins among active coaches with 969 victories.
However, his later coaching years were overshadowed by his “unacceptable” involvement in the sexual assault scandal that emerged during the 2010 season.
Former Blackhawks player Kyle Beach accused former video coach Brad Aldrich of sexually assaulting him during that season.
Quenneville served as the Blackhawks’ head coach from 2010 to 2019.
He resigned as head coach of the Panthers in 2021 after a meeting with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman regarding the inadequate response to the allegations. Insufficient response,” following the investigation.
Last July, the NHL reprimanded Quenneville, along with former general manager Stan Bowman and former assistant general manager Al MacIsaac.
“It’s evident that their actions at the time were unacceptable. However, all three individuals have demonstrated a commitment to acknowledging their responsibility and have taken significant steps towards personal improvement through various programs aimed at effectively addressing abusive behavior,” he stated.
Quenneville now takes charge of a Ducks team that has struggled, missing the playoffs for seven straight seasons following a 35-37-10 record this year.
He succeeds Greg Cronin, who led the team for two years.
