In a video message shared on social media this week, Duffy explained that the tests are being run “to properly detect drones in the airspace and not interfere with the aircraft navigation system.”
Many Americans were concerned about things like the sightings of the sky last year.
A joint agency of the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, FAA and the Department of Defense’s statement in December addressed the issue by declaring that “previous sightings include a combination of legal commercial drones, hobby drones and law enforcement drones, over civil airspace in New Jersey or other states in the northeast.”

Shortly after President Donald Trump took office in January, White House Press Office Caroline Leavitt told her what she described as a statement from Trump, explaining that the garden state drones were cleared by the FAA to fly “for research and various other reasons,” and that many drones were fled by enthusiasts.
“This was not the enemy,” she concluded, explaining the statement, “a statement from the president.”

The FAA post last week said, “The agency has been testing drone detection technologies at airports for the past few years, expanding testing to out-of-air locations. These tests will help determine the effectiveness of these technologies and determine whether they can interfere with the FAA or aircraft navigation system.”
