“The points for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are in the title,” said 3-foot-high actress Ali Chapman.
“The Seven Dwarfs were the stars of the classic 1937 film loved by millions,” she said. “Instead of Disney making live-action films and giving seven talented little people a chance to shine, they completely scrapped us and used CGI instead.”
“It's a complete tragedy, and there are a lot of angry little people actors and actresses out there,” Chapman continued. “People are flying from all over the world and telling Disney that this is unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, Chapman's husband, who also has dwarfism, said, “We've been completely locked out, but not quietly down.”
“It's hard enough in Hollywood. Everyone is trying to make your dreams come true. When you have fewer opportunities for little people, I was born to play Doppy the Dwarf. It's my dream role, but Disney didn't give me a chance.”
“There were seven great parts there, but Disney decided to go with some weird cartoons. I was embarrassed!”
Jeff Beecher, a Hollywood producer who has promoted dwarf actors in the past, said Hollywood “failed” dwarf actors.
“If Hollywood was about inclusion and diversity, we could have had actors of talented little people in all these roles,” Beecher continued. “This was a beautiful opportunity to hire actors and actresses, Hollywood, from seven diverse, very talented little people.”
Additionally, the film also reportedly saw tensions between Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who plays the evil queen, and Latina actress Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White.
Zegler's conflict with Gadot reportedly came from the Zegler Pro-Palestinian Stance. Daily Mail.
An unnamed senior Disney executive reportedly described the film as a “complete PR disaster.” Daily Mail.
“It's a $270 million movie, but we can't wait for this week to end. The idea of hundreds of dwarfs protesting Snow White in front of a Disney studio is so depressing I can't imagine.”
It is currently unclear when the protests are expected to take place, but the film is expected to appear in theaters on March 21st.st.
