Author E. Jean Carroll said Monday that former President Trump will “do good” on the $83.3 million he was ordered to pay in a defamation case.
“Oh, that’s emotional. We talked about it a lot. We’re going to do good with that money,” Carroll said on “CNN This Morning” in response to a question about what she would do with Trump’s money. Ta. She joked that Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, suggested using her money to turn Trump Tower in New York City into an animal sanctuary.
“No, but we’re making sure we don’t waste every penny on this,” Carol continued. “And we have some good ideas and are working on them.”
On Friday, a jury ordered Trump to pay Trump $83.3 million in 2019 for defaming Carroll, who denied his accusations that he sexually assaulted her in the mid-1990s. President Trump has said he plans to appeal the ruling.
Another jury previously found the former president liable for sexual abuse of Carroll in a libel trial over separate comments last year and ordered him to pay her $5 million.
When pressed for details, Carroll suggested some of the money would be used to “restore women’s rights,” pointing to Trump’s past comments about women.
“So this victory was really for all the women who stood up and were knocked down. All women. And this is where Robbie and I planted the flag, to turn things around and help women I want to make sure it’s believable,” she said of attorney Roberta Kaplan.
In an interview with new york times Carroll also said over the weekend she would be thinking about ways to use the money to make a difference.
“I can’t say what they are yet. We’ll all talk and come up with a great plan,” she told the Times.
But as Mr. Carroll appeals the jury’s verdict, he may not receive any funds from Mr. Trump for months or even years.
