AJ Brown Explains His Decision on Georgia Football
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown recently shared an interesting reason for not playing football in Georgia. It turns out, it has to do with something quite unexpected—the color of the team’s socks.
At 28, Brown revealed that while Georgia had recruited him, he ultimately decided against joining the Bulldogs due to their black socks. He said, “I didn’t choose Georgia; I was adopted by Georgia,” during an appearance on Bar Stool Sports. He added, “Please forgive my take.”
Brown explained his preferences quite candidly: “I didn’t choose Georgia because I don’t like wearing black socks. It might sound crazy, but I really hate them.” He finds the combination of black socks and black cleats to be “terrifying.” For him, wearing white socks feels faster and smoother, which makes a difference on the field.
In high school, Brown was one of the top wide receiver prospects, getting attention from Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Mississippi. He eventually chose to play for Ole Miss, where he was part of a dynamic receiving corps that boasted three future NFL players in 2018 alone.
Drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Brown has continued to wear white socks with both the Titans and now the Eagles, seemingly maintaining that sense of speed he values so much.
Regardless of sock color, his performance last season with the Eagles was impressive. In 13 regular-season games, he secured 67 catches, netting 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns. Notably, during the Eagles’ playoff run, he made 12 receptions for 163 yards and scored two touchdowns in four games.
