The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Joe Milton as they look for a spark after a rough stretch.
Milton will replace Tanner McKee at quarterback, ESPN reported. McKee had started Philadelphia’s previous three games after Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the season because of blood clots. The Eagles lost each of those games.
The move comes just two days after head coach Nick Sirianni publicly backed McKee. On Monday, he told reporters, “Tanner’s our guy. We’re not making any changes there.”
Sirianni also said the team needed to find answers after dropping six straight games following a 2-0 start. Whether the problems came down to the scheme, execution or mental mistakes, he said, the coaches had to take responsibility.
Milton joined the Eagles on Oct. 16, after Philadelphia signed him off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. Sirianni has spoken positively about the quarterback’s work and progress, noting that he and quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier had spent considerable time getting him up to speed.
“He works extremely hard,” Sirianni said. “He’s always in the building doing the extra things, and, yeah, I like his progression.”
A sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2024, Milton played one season in New England before being traded to Dallas. He served as Dak Prescott’s backup in 2025.
Milton has appeared in five NFL games. His only full game came in a Week 18 matchup for the Patriots in 2024, when he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards, throwing one touchdown and adding another on the ground.
In four appearances with Dallas last season, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He’ll be the fourth quarterback to attempt a pass for Philadelphia this season, joining Hurts, McKee and Andy Dalton. The Eagles released Dalton after his only pass—a pick—during a loss to the Chicago Bears.
Philadelphia will hope Milton can help turn things around Sunday against the New York Giants, who are 4-2-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
