Eagles cut Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton following one bad pass in defeat

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t take long to make a decision regarding Andy Dalton after he threw just one pass in their 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. Dalton, who is 38, came into the game when starter Jalen Hurts temporarily exited due to an injury. At that point, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 and faced a crucial third-and-goal situation at the Bears’ 2-yard line.

He took the snap from the shotgun but unfortunately threw an interception, as rookie safety Dillon Thieneman was able to jump the route. Just a few days later, ahead of their trip to London, the Eagles released Dalton.

After Dalton’s interception, the Eagles promoted Tanner McKee, pushing Dalton down to third on the depth chart. Now, he is officially no longer part of the team.

This marks Dalton’s sixth team in his NFL career. He had a strong start with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was a starter for the first nine years, but has since been a backup on several teams.

He started for every team he played for, except the Eagles. After his tenure with the Bengals, he had brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and the Carolina Panthers.

Over his career, Dalton has played in 180 games, starting 169 of those, and has a record of 84 wins, 83 losses, and 2 ties. He has completed about 62.6% of his passes, racking up 39,793 yards with 254 touchdowns against 152 interceptions.

The Eagles, now 2-2, are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, who hold a 3-1 record, in London this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
