Eagles Seek New Offensive Coordinator Again
The Philadelphia Eagles are once again on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator.
On Tuesday, the team announced that Kevin Pattullo has been let go from his position after just one season, although there’s a possibility he might remain on the coaching staff in some capacity.
Head coach Nick Sirianni commented on the decision, acknowledging the difficulty of it. He expressed great respect for Pattullo, noting, “He has been a significant part of our team’s success over the last five years—not only for his on-field contributions but also as a vital leader behind the scenes. I believe he will still be a successful coach.” This shows a bit of the emotional weight behind such changes, perhaps, and how it’s not just about wins and losses.
Sirianni added, “If I don’t meet my objectives, that’s on me.” It’s a refreshing dose of accountability, isn’t it?
Pattullo began his career with the Eagles as the passing game coordinator and has been part of the coaching staff since 2021, during Sirianni’s inaugural season.
This will mark the Eagles’ fifth offensive coordinator in five years, following the departures of Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore to head coaching roles, and the firing of Brian Johnson two years ago. It’s quite a turnover, really.
After celebrating a Super Bowl victory last year, the Eagles’ offense has struggled this season. They finished 19th in total points and 24th in total yards during the regular season, a significant drop from their previous top-10 standings in those categories for three consecutive seasons.
Interestingly, quarterback Jalen Hurts seems to have taken a step back under Pattullo’s guidance, posting his lowest completion percentage (64.8%), among other disappointing metrics like a 55.8 quarterback rating over the last four years.
The run game hasn’t fared any better. Saquon Barkley, once a star ball carrier who rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2024, saw a decline, recording only 1,140 yards this season in the same number of games.
In a disheartening end to the season, Philadelphia faced a significant loss to the 49ers at home in the Wild Card Round, falling 23-19 and getting eliminated from the playoffs.
