Nick Sirianni’s Frustration Surfaces During Monday Night Loss

Nick Sirianni’s frustration reached a peak during the Eagles’ 27-7 defeat against the Bears on Monday Night Football. The Super Bowl-winning head coach had some harsh words for linebacker D’Marco Jackson after Jackson’s late hit on quarterback Jalen Hurts, which led to Hurts being evaluated for a concussion.

The hit occurred during a second-and-4 play, resulting in an unnecessary roughness penalty. Hurts was sidelined for about two minutes while medical personnel assessed him. From the sidelines, Sirianni appeared to call Jackson a derogatory term, expressing his anger at the situation.

Andy Dalton stepped in briefly for Hurts and, unfortunately, threw an interception on third-and-goal from the 2-yard line while the Bears were ahead 7-0. Fortunately, Hurts was cleared from concussion protocol and returned to the field.

After the moment with Jackson captured attention, Sirianni reflected on his reaction, admitting he wished he could handle it better. “You always want to protect your players. In the heat of the moment, I let my emotions get the best of me,” he said, acknowledging his regret over the incident.

While Hurts quickly got back up after the hit, referees intervened, ensuring he went to the medical tent for precautionary measures. Sirianni elaborated, stating, “It was a close call on the sideline, and while you don’t want to see your quarterback get hit like that, I recognize it’s an emotional game.” He concluded that he needed to maintain better composure in such situations.

Despite Hurts’s return, the Eagles struggled offensively throughout much of the game. “I was just waiting for the thumbs-up. I felt fine,” Hurts commented afterward, expressing a desire for a quicker evaluation process but ultimately stating he felt ready to play.

Dalton later apologized to Hurts for the pick that stalled their drive, as Philadelphia ended the evening with just 248 total yards, with Hurts passing for 153 yards and one interception.
