Jalen Hurts Placed on Injured Reserve Due to Blood Clot
Jalen Hurts finds himself in a serious situation with the Philadelphia Eagles as he has been placed on injured reserve due to a blood clot issue. This designation means he is expected to miss at least four games, though the team is considering him out “indefinitely” while they monitor the condition of the clot.
According to Jay Glazer on “FOX NFL Sunday,” Hurts will only return to the field if the blood clot “completely melted.” Initially, it was stated that the clot was superficial and not posing a major threat, which allowed him to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London recently. However, once it began to move, Glazer emphasized the gravity of the situation, hinting at potential life-threatening risks associated with a migrating clot.
For Hurts to make a comeback this season, the clot needs to be completely dissolved, which requires thorough scans to ensure it has vanished. If any remnant remains, it could lead to serious complications.
David Chao, a former team doctor for the Los Angeles Chargers, echoed these concerns regarding the clot’s movement, suggesting that a deep vein clot would extend Hurts’ recovery time significantly.
With Hurts sidelined, the Eagles turned to Tanner McKee, his backup, for his first start of the season against the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, the Eagles lost that game, 25-14. Looking ahead, Hurts will miss the upcoming Monday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, as well as games against the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants, all critical divisional games.
The Eagles have faced a string of injuries this season beyond Hurts, with running back Saquon Barkley also missing time due to a hamstring issue. Other running backs, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley, are dealing with their own injuries, and offensive lineman Lane Johnson made headlines with his mid-season retirement.
