Eagles put cornerback Jaire Alexander on the retired list following trade

Jaire Alexander Retires from NFL

Jaire Alexander, the cornerback recently signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, has been placed on the reserve/retired list just a day after news broke that he would be stepping away from football. The 28-year-old player made this decision after recovering from offseason knee surgery.

The team confirmed this change in their roster on Wednesday. Alexander, previously with the Baltimore Ravens, was acquired before the trade deadline along with a 2027 seventh-round draft pick. It’s notable that he’s choosing to focus on his health, both physically and mentally, before contemplating his future in the NFL.

This week, it was reported that the two-time All-Pro communicated his intention to the Eagles to prioritize his well-being. There’s a bit of ambiguity around his retirement status, as he hasn’t officially submitted his resignation paperwork yet.

Alexander’s career primarily unfolded with the Green Bay Packers, where he made significant contributions, including 287 tackles and 12 interceptions over seven seasons. His achievements included being named an All-Pro in 2020 and 2022. Just recently, he had been released by the Packers in June and had only played in two games for Baltimore this season.

Alongside Alexander’s announcement, the Eagles made other roster adjustments, such as activating cornerback Jacorian Bennett from injured reserve. Bennett, who joined the Eagles during training camp, missed some time due to a chest injury sustained during a game against the Los Angeles Rams. During the current season, he has recorded six tackles and one pass defensed.
