LOS ANGELES, CA – Survivors from the Altadena and Pasadena areas affected by the Eton Fire have come together to protest against the state’s largest home insurance provider, claiming that the company has significantly underestimated damage costs.

Joy Chen, a former vice mayor of Los Angeles and a member of the Eton Fire Survivor Network, noted her involvement in guiding the community during the initial evacuation and response to the fire when local officials struggled.
Chen asserts that the insurance company seems to routinely provide “low ball” estimates for damages. Adjusters assess the damage at disaster sites, but the company often revises these estimates downward before they reach policyholders. This tactic pressures financially strained clients to accept lower compensation.
She highlights that such practices have been observed after the recent LA fire as well as in previous disasters.

Chen’s group has rallied thousands of supporters, driving protests, initiating petitions, and researching the discrepancy between initial estimates made by adjusters and the final offers from the insurance company.
