Investigation into Biden’s Autopen Use
Ed Martin, a lawyer at the Department of Justice, recently revealed that the DOJ is considering a pardon related to an “autopen” signature, issued on the final day of the Biden administration. Martin, who is serving as an interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, has been delving into this case.
On Tuesday, it emerged that Martin’s inquiry into the autopen usage has been in progress for several weeks. He has made inquiries to members of the Biden family, identifying a specific lawyer interested in the situation. Several whistleblowers have come forward with serious accusations.
“About ten days ago, a whistleblower from my office, a senior Democrat, shared that three individuals had access and were financially benefiting from this autopen situation,” Martin discussed in an interview with journalist Mark Halperin. “I can’t say I fully believe it yet, but it’s essential we uncover the truth for the American public and safeguard the process,” he added.
Martin has indicated that whistleblowers are involved at high levels within the Biden campaign from 2020.
During the conversation, when pressed for the identities of the three individuals exploiting the president’s autopen, Martin was careful in his responses. Instead of naming the alleged abusers, he referred to a “gatekeeper” who is considered to have significant influence in the White House.
Martin mentioned several key figures he sees as gatekeepers: Ron Klain, Biden’s chief of staff from 2021 to 2023; Anita Dunn, a former advisor; and Robert Bauer, who was Obama’s personal attorney.
Additionally, two more names were brought up by Martin: Jill Biden’s former counselor, Steve Ricchetti, who also served as chair for Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Martin has further inquired about the roles of Susan Rice and others but indicated that the whistleblower did not believe their involvement was relevant.
The investigation has unveiled that Biden’s signatures on various executive orders and documents might have been generated by a machine—a point confirmed by a watchdog group.
There were reports suggesting that staff members were making decisions on Biden’s behalf, including suspending key policies while he was away on vacation. There’s even a claim that Biden himself might not clearly remember signing certain documents, igniting concerns about the handling of his administration.
Mike Howell, overseeing the Surveillance Project, expressed confidence in Martin’s credibility and suggested the investigation is crucial given the circumstances surrounding the Biden presidency.
In a statement, Howell emphasized, “There is no doubt Martin is involved in this issue, and the public needs clarity on how these actions were handled.”
Hours before Martin’s updates, former President Donald Trump declared on social media that Biden’s cognitive decline has led to a serious exploitation of the autopen, calling it an act of “the highest level of treason.” Trump criticized the decisions being made during Biden’s presidency, particularly regarding border policies, stating they have had dire repercussions for the country.
Meanwhile, Rep. James Comer from Kentucky also spoke out, suggesting that Biden is not fully aware of his surroundings, questioning the legality of actions taken using the autopen. He acknowledged that the ongoing investigation aims to uncover more about this situation.
Lindy Lee, a Democratic strategist who previously supported Kamala Harris, hinted at key figures—such as Hunter Biden—who might not have been fully addressed in the ongoing investigations. She suggested that there are significant behind-the-scenes players impacting political decisions during Biden’s term.
Comer reiterated his doubts about Biden’s direct approval of autopen use, arguing that the legality of such pardons could be at stake, and emphasized the need to get to the bottom of this overarching scandal.
