Editorial board urges inquiry into Biden's health during presidency

The Washington Post Calls for Transparency on Biden’s Health

The editorial board of The Washington Post stated on Thursday that it is reasonable for Americans to be informed about former President Joe Biden’s health during his time in office.

They noted that Biden’s personal physician, Kevin O’Connor, did not provide health details at a recent congressional hearing, emphasizing that lawmakers must delve deeper into the matter. “Congress should thoroughly investigate if Biden is fit both physically and mentally to fulfill his duties, rather than just catering to public curiosity,” they asserted.

The board suggested that O’Connor could have shared crucial insights regarding how those in the White House manage perceptions of Biden’s fitness.

The House Oversight Committee is currently probing whether Biden’s previous aides concealed signs of his cognitive and physical decline, which they have denied. During the hearings, O’Connor invoked his Fifth Amendment right multiple times.

Responses to the doctors’ actions from Republicans hinted at a potential cover-up, while Democrats expressed reservations about discussing Biden’s health at all. The board remarked that both parties mishandled the situation.

As the debate continues, the committee’s investigation might raise questions regarding transparency in presidential health. This case highlights ongoing concerns that, perhaps, transparency rules for future presidents should be established. It’s tough to deny that Biden’s health narrative matters.

Evidence, including Biden’s apparent lapses, like forgetting a top aide’s name or relying on teleprompters for minor events, was pointed out. Concerns over Cabinet meetings being scripted and Biden’s capacity to endure long hours prompt serious questions about national security and governance.

The board discussed the necessity for representatives to carefully evaluate these issues in order to recommend changes that could benefit American leadership. They did acknowledge that O’Connor faced a challenging dilemma during the hearings, balancing his ethical duty to safeguard patient confidentiality with the pressure of potential legal repercussions.

Representatives for the former president have yet to respond to inquiries for comments on this matter.
