Education Department designates June as 'Title IX Month'

The Education Department announced on Monday that June, typically recognized as Pride Month, will now be observed as “Title IX Month” amid efforts to roll back protections for transgender individuals established during the Biden administration.

This change was described as a commemoration of the 53rd anniversary of the signing of the Title IX Education Amendment (1972).

“June is set aside for honoring women and acknowledging their ongoing fight for equal educational opportunities,” the press release indicated.

The department also noted its actions to “reverse the Biden administration’s legacy of undermining Title IX” and pledged to “enhance measures aimed at protecting women consistent with the true intent of Title IX.”

This shift follows the Trump administration’s attempts to eliminate protections for transgender athletes, citing concerns about fairness for trans women and girls participating on teams aligned with their gender identity.

The Education Department has also initiated several investigations into K-12 districts and higher education institutions regarding the inclusion of transgender individuals in women’s sports teams.

The sector has embraced June as “Title IX Month,” which honors the civil rights achievements of women and reflects the Trump administration’s commitment to fully restoring those rights.

“This administration will actively work to safeguard women and girls’ sports, private spaces, dorms, and recognized organizations,” she stated.

As Pride Month approaches, the LGBTQ advocacy group Glaad released a report indicating that over the past year, it documented more than 1,000 incidents targeting the community.

Sarah Moore, an analyst at GLAAD, remarked, “This situation is tied to a very heated discussion surrounding trans rights right now.”
