Search Continues for Missing Teen After Disturbing Text
Officials are still on the lookout for a missing teenager who sent a chilling text to his mother shortly before disappearing in Florida.
According to reports, 18-year-old Giovanni Peretier was vacationing with relatives from North Carolina when he visited other family members in eastern Florida on August 1.
During this visit, he got into a white Chevrolet Malibu with friends of his cousins, along with a cousin he hadn’t met face-to-face before, having only spoken about them over the phone.
Approximately 25 minutes into the drive, Giovanni sent a shocking message to his mother: “help me.” He also reached out to other family members with similar pleas. That was the last anyone heard from him.
As the search enters its eighth day, a non-profit organization, We Are The Essentials, is actively involved in locating Giovanni. Reports indicate that a cousin informed the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office that he had driven north on Interstate 75, and Giovanni began behaving unusually. He left the vehicle and was last seen walking near State Route 70 in Manatee County. His cell phone and backpack were later discovered in the vicinity.
Giovanni’s aunt expressed her determination to find him, stating, “I want to find Gio; that’s my only goal here. I’m going to find him no matter what.”
His mother described her son as someone who typically doesn’t cause trouble unnecessarily. She mentioned, “He tries to work things out on his own before bringing problems to anyone. This situation is out of character for him.” She added that the community’s response to his disappearance shows the positive impact he’s had on others.
The family has now put up a $25,000 reward for any information that could lead to finding him.
As the situation unfolds, details continue to emerge, and the urgency of the search only seems to grow.
