Shooting in Shreveport: Eight Children Killed in Multiple Incidents
Authorities in Louisiana have determined that there is no ongoing threat from a man believed to be responsible for the tragic deaths of eight children during three separate shootings near Shreveport early Sunday morning.
Law enforcement arrived at the Cedar Grove neighborhood just after 6 a.m. CT in response to a shooting report. Corporal Chris Bordelon of the Shreveport Police Department stated that victims were discovered across three different homes. He elaborated that the crime scene extends to two residences on West 79th Street and another home on Harrison Street.
“The scene is quite extensive, with at least ten individuals shot in connection with what appears to have been a domestic incident, leading to eight fatalities,” Bordelon shared with the media. He noted that the victims ranged in age from one year to 14 years old, all of whom were minors. According to Bordelon, the suspects were involved in a carjacking that precipitated a high-speed chase into a nearby area, where police ultimately shot and killed them.
“It’s just shocking. Honestly, how does something like this happen?” was the response from Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith during his remarks to reporters.
Mike Johnson, the Republican House Speaker representing the Shreveport area, described the incident as “heartbreaking.” He expressed his sentiments via a post on social media, extending thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families while acknowledging the rapid response from law enforcement.
This tragic event followed closely on the heels of another shocking incident, where former Democratic Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax was reported to have fatally harmed his wife before taking his own life, shortly before a divorce trial.
