Grisly Discovery in Florida Community

Residents of a small community in Florida were shocked to hear of a brutal crime involving an elderly couple. Reports indicate that the wife was found murdered with a hammer, while the husband also suffered a tragic fate.

According to the police from Groveland, authorities arrived at a home on Waypoint Drive for a welfare check late Sunday night. What they discovered was unsettling.

Upon entering the residence, officers encountered 82-year-old Vincent DeFrier in the living room, visibly injured and in a dazed state. It was later determined that his injuries were self-inflicted, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.

Searching further in the home, police found his 84-year-old wife lying in bed, covered in blood with a hammer located beside her. The scene was horrific, as there were signs of violence, with blood spattering on walls and ceilings. Dried blood was also found leading to the bathroom, and an injury to her head was described as a “major impact wound.” Investigators believe she died about 24 hours before being discovered.

Authorities suggested that DeFrier had killed his wife before attempting to harm himself. Eyewitnesses later noted that about a month prior to these events, there had been discussions about a potential suicide pact involving medication.

Now, DeFrier is in custody at the Lake County Jail, where he is facing charges of first-degree murder.

In the aftermath, neighbors expressed their disbelief. One resident, wishing to remain anonymous, described the couple as kind and likable, and shared their shock at the unfolding tragedy. “It’s a quiet neighborhood. We all look out for one another,” he said, reflecting on the unfortunate events.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that DeFrier’s wife was identified as Evelyn DeFryer in legal documents regarding the case.
