Former Gov. David Paterson says Donald Trump is likely to lose the race for the White House as Democrats vacillate over Biden’s debate debacle and whether the embattled 81-year-old should remain the front-runner.
Paterson praised former Republican President Trump for largely showing restraint while his rival Biden and other Democrats have been mired in a political quagmire, and said it will now be tough for Biden or his successor to beat the Republican candidate despite his scandals.
“If you notice [last] “We’ve barely heard anything this week from a former president named Donald Trump. It’s one thing for Donald Trump to make noise and upset a lot of people,” said Rep. Paterson, a Democrat. I said on Sunday “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 Radio.
“But I think his silence in this case shows, ‘Everything is going my way and the Democrats are acting in their own interest, so why am I not saying anything?'”
He said even Trump, who has never shunned the spotlight or attacked his opponents on social media or at rallies, understands that sometimes silence is golden.
Meanwhile, Paterson believes Biden and his team’s explanation for his disastrous performance in the presidential debates — and their attacks on Democrats who questioned his intellectual acuity — have only made things worse.
“Either way, [Biden] He should withdraw from the race. However, this response [of last week’s debate] “It was really bad. I know the former president will be tempted to jump in, but he’s wise not to,” Patterson said.
“When you’re in trouble, don’t attack someone,” Patterson said.
He said the 81-year-old Biden would have won more sympathy if he had simply said he messed up at the debate, apologized and vowed to do better next time, rather than blaming his mistakes on a cold or lack of rest.

He noted that Vice President Kamala Harris is polling worse than Biden and that other less well-known candidates would struggle to garner support with just months to go until the election, but said the 78-year-old Trump is well-positioned to reclaim the presidency.
“Now we have to take on Donald Trump, who is playing with the House of Representatives’ finances. It’s going to be a tough job for President Biden or whoever steps out of office and takes Trump’s place,” Paterson told host John Catsimatidis.
President Trump has been facing serious legal troubles of his own, but he got some respite last week when the US Supreme Court ruled that the president has immunity for “official business” that could affect ongoing criminal cases.
Following the ruling, the verdict in the Manhattan hush money trial was postponed from July 11 to September.
Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Marchan said he would rule by Sept. 6 on how the immunity ruling would affect the case, with a ruling on Sept. 18 “if still necessary.”
A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on May 30 of covering up a $130,000 payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels to hide details of their sexual relationship from voters before the 2016 presidential election. He faces up to four years in prison, but could also be subject to probation and community service.
