Following the Trump administration’s targeted attacks on elite universities, including Harvard University and Columbia, leaders and administrators at some universities have organized informal groups to oppose the federal government.
“The informal group currently includes around 10 schools, including IVIE and major private research universities. Wall Street Journal revealed In a report released on Sunday. “After a list of recent requests from the administration to wipe out cultural changes at Harvard, which many universities viewed as an attack on independence, the strategy debate has gained momentum.”
The Trump administration has frozen funds for Harvard, focusing on other schools where anti-Semitic actions and protests have made public headlines, especially in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7th.

Council of American Education Leaders Ted Mitchell spoke out in favor of an informal group that includes around 10 schools, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“We’re encouraging them to continue,” Mitchell said. “This type of exchange will help agencies understand the impact of government actions across campus and identify important non-negotiable possibilities that are not imposed on government regulations.”
Another told the Journal that school leaders believe they are “ground zero” of resistance to the Trump administration.

The Trump administration is also targeting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs at universities across the country. However, conservative nonprofit advocacy education found that 243 universities maintain DEI offices or programming across the institution, and still have 383 “now active” DEI offices and programs.
