Elle Duncan Bids Farewell at ESPN

Elle Duncan made a stylish exit during ESPN’s farewell gathering on Tuesday, marking the end of a decade with the sports network.

Before transitioning to Netflix, Duncan hosted her last episode of “SportsCenter,” where she took a moment to defend her former workplace amidst ongoing criticisms.

“As I wrap up my time here, I feel it’s important to say this: I see the headlines—some outlets are profiting, some aren’t,” she noted. “Everyone knows criticism is part of the role, but I want to emphasize that while the face of this organization might be visible, it’s not reflective of its true essence.”

“The real heart of the place lies in its countless employees. They might not be in the spotlight, but they’re always under scrutiny,” Duncan continued. “We come from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, with no hidden agendas. It’s similar to what many of you deal with at home—doing meaningful work to support families and create a better future.”

Over the years, ESPN has faced various critiques, ranging from conflicts of interest to accusations of political bias and contentious programming choices.

Duncan urged fans to recognize the “heartbeat” of the company, which includes the editors, producers, and directors who largely go unnoticed but work tirelessly to propel the network forward.

Having joined “SportsCenter” in 2016 after a stint in Boston, Duncan is set to take on a pivotal role at Netflix’s sports division as the streaming service expands its coverage of live sports.

In a heartfelt farewell, she expressed gratitude to her colleagues: “Thank you for all the support, for your kindness, for those late-night check-ins, and early morning calls. Thank you for making this workplace truly feel like home.”

As a final note, Duncan playfully acknowledged Broncos and Georgia football fans, hinting that if either doesn’t win this season, she might have to make a triumphant return to gloat around the ESPN offices.
