Ellen DeGeneres Purchases $27 Million Mansion in California
Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly acquired a mansion in California for a staggering $27 million, just a little over a year since she left for the UK, allegedly upset over Donald Trump’s return to power.
A source shared with People that DeGeneres plans to maintain her life split between California’s Montecito and the UK. The source noted, “She won’t be coming back to the US full-time.” It seems she’s found a balance, at least for now.
In June 2024, she had made headlines when she purchased a farmhouse in the Cotswolds, which is roughly 160 miles northwest of London, for about $14 million—an apparent reaction to Trump’s election. Oddly enough, she’s said to have moved from one extravagant mansion to another, this time to accommodate her wife Portia de Rossi’s passion for horses.
Despite her previous public statements about leaving the U.S., a real estate insider mentioned that both DeGeneres and de Rossi have been yearning for California’s weather and the local equestrian community. “Portia is really into polo and horses,” they remarked.
Interestingly enough, DeGeneres was seen purchasing her new Montecito home on the same day she was meant to join a movement protesting ICE.
Residents in the Cotswolds have mentioned they hadn’t spotted DeGeneres in quite some time; one even said she hadn’t been to the local pub in “months.” Yet, another source contradicts this, stating she was often in the village during the summer.
Back in July 2025, DeGeneres confessed that her move to the UK stemmed from Trump’s election. She shared with an audience at the Everyman Theater in Cheltenham that they were quite proactive in relocating, exclaiming, “We’re here to stay.” Life in the UK, she noted, was “really beautiful.”
The former daytime host has a known passion for real estate and has dabbled in house flipping. It’s reported she tried, but failed, to sell her own farmhouse in England for $30 million, eventually slashing the asking price significantly. According to reports, the house is nearing a sale now.
DeGeneres also stays politically engaged. Recently, she expressed her sadness regarding escalating ICE actions in Minneapolis, stating in a video, “I’m really, really sorry for what’s going on in Minneapolis and in our country, especially in Minneapolis right now, because this is where I filmed my last stand-up special, and everyone there couldn’t have been nicer.”
