Trump’s Business Delegation Heads to China
This week, President Donald Trump will travel to China with a group of over a dozen prominent business leaders, including Elon Musk, who heads Tesla, xAI, and SpaceX, as confirmed by a White House official.
Trump’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with expectations of securing some business deals while in Beijing.
The delegation features a notable lineup of CEOs:
- Tim Cook, Apple
- Larry Fink, BlackRock
- Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone
- Kelly Ortberg, Boeing
- Brian Sikes, Cargill
- Jane Fraser, Citigroup
- Jim Anderson, Coherent
- Larry Culp, General Electric
- David Solomon, Goldman Sachs
- Jacob Thaysen, Illumina
- Michael Miebach, Mastercard
- Dina Powell McCormick, Meta
- Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron
- Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm
- Ryan McInerney, Visa
A Cisco spokesperson mentioned that CEO Chuck Robbins was invited but couldn’t attend due to conflicting earnings obligations.
Interestingly, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang is absent from the delegation list. This might be because the White House has chosen to concentrate on agriculture and aviation topics, as noted by Reuters.
“We should let the president announce whatever he decides to announce … If invited, it would be a privilege, it would be a great honor to represent the United States,” Huang expressed to CNBC.
While companies like General Motors, Disney, and Alphabet also have interests in China, they didn’t make it onto the guest list.
This isn’t Trump’s first trip with a business group; he took a similar delegation to Saudi Arabia last May, which included some attendees from the current trip. Originally scheduled for April, this Beijing visit was postponed amid U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
