While the band was playing, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Evelead singer Billie Joe Armstrong changed the lyrics of the band's 2004 song “American Idiot.”
The song's original lyrics are: “Well, maybe I'm just a motherfucker, America/I'm not part of the redneck agenda/Come on, guys, do your propaganda/And sing along for the times of paranoia” Please.” ”
The recently released lyrics read as follows: Maga Agenda/Come on, let's all do some propaganda/And sing along to the age of paranoia. ”
The move drew heavy criticism from many supporters of President Trump, who is credited with popularizing the phrase “Make America Great Again” (MAGA).
Several celebrities took to social media to share their frustrations, including Musk, the world's richest man, who is known for his outspoken views that sometimes challenge woke culture and political “correctness.”
The Berkeley-based band has a long history of criticizing U.S. presidents and promoting left-wing viewpoints, while simultaneously reaping the fruits of American capitalism.
The band first attacked Trump at the 2016 American Music Awards with the slogan “No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA.”
In 2018, Green Day continued to speak out against the former president in private performances.
“I hate Donald Trump,” Armstrong said. “I was screaming that I hate George Bush. This is a little different. This is awful, like acid gone bad.”
Most recently, the band released merchandise featuring photos of Republicans. The product describes Trump as “the ultimate Nimrod,” a reference to his 1997 album.
