X Subscription Plans Evolve with Enhanced Features
The subscription offerings on X have significantly changed since their initial introduction in late 2022, when they were known as Twitter Blue. Back then, users enjoyed benefits like longer posts and improved visibility through algorithms. Fast forward to today, and the paid plans on X now come packed with far more AI-driven features, all available at comparable pricing—or even better.
When X first launched its paid subscriptions, there were three tiers:
These newer plans deliver a lot more functionalities compared to the earlier ones, potentially saving you money.
Basic allowed users to create longer posts, edit them post-publication, and upload videos of greater length.
Premium built upon Basic by adding a verification check mark, higher priority in algorithms, larger usage limits on Grok, and access to a creator program that enables users to monetize their posts.
Premium+ encompassed everything from the previous tiers, with the addition of an ad-free experience on X, prioritized replies, and higher limits on Grok interactions.
However, since the original introduction of these paid subscriptions, quite a bit has changed. Grok has improved its capabilities, and X is now under the banner of SpaceXSI, previously known as SpaceXAI. Furthermore, Elon Musk has acquired a popular AI coding platform, Cursor. Given this transformation, it seems reasonable that X updated its subscription options to reflect these advancements, making them even more appealing than before.
Previously, users paid separately for X Premium, SuperGrok, and Cursor Pro, with costs varying between $10 and $100 each month. That structure has shifted. Now, as of mid-October, X has consolidated its offerings under a single subscription plan known simply as the X Subscription.
This new plan comprises four uncomplicated tiers with varying features:
Free allows users to access basic X functions, such as posting, replying to others, and following friends, along with limited AI features.
Plus includes a premium check mark, reduced ads, and wider access to Grok Chat for text inquiries, Grok Voice for live conversations, Grok Imagine for image and video generation, and Grok Build for coding tasks. This plan is priced at $8 per month.
Premium introduces Grok Bot, the new autonomous AI functionality from Cursor that offers faster responses and access to the latest Grok models. This tier holds four times the AI usage capacity of Plus and is the most popular choice at $30 per month.
Super maximizes the benefits of the X Subscription by providing 15 times the AI usage capacity and leading access to the most potent Grok models during peak times, with a monthly fee of $100.
Compared with earlier plans, these new options provide significantly enhanced features without increasing costs. Users who previously subscribed to SuperGrok or Cursor may find they are actually saving money now. The more advanced capabilities of Grok are more accessible, allowing for greater functionality based on the selected plan.
The new Grok Bot is likely to attract significant interest. Acting as a fully autonomous AI, it can assist with various tasks, including managing your calendar like a personal assistant, sifting through emails for important updates, and providing a daily briefing of essential news stories.
Interestingly, Musk has even suggested giving Grok your credit card information for online shopping. That’s a bit too much for my comfort, especially with recent concerns about online security vulnerabilities. Still, the functionality of Grok Bot is quite impressive.
New users can sign up for the X Subscription right away. For those who already have X Premium or Cursor, your account will remain as is for now unless you decide to switch to the X Subscription. Upgrading will cancel your previous subscription, and you might even get a refund for any unused time.
