Musk Criticizes Trump’s Legislative Agenda
In a tweet on X, Elon Musk strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s major legislative initiative, labeling it “nasty and hateful.” Musk, who recently distanced himself from the Trump administration and invested over $200 million in the president’s reelection campaign, took issue with House Republicans for passing the bill that aligns closely with parts of Trump’s agenda.
“I can’t hold it anymore,” Musk expressed in his tweet. He admitted to writing it and stated, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional expenditure bill is a nasty hatred. I’m embarrassed by those who voted for it. I know you were wrong. You know that.”
The contentious bill features an extension of significant funding for border security, retains the tax cuts from 2017, and includes provisions that eliminate taxes for certain groups while also addressing overtime costs.
Previous to this, Musk had criticized a similar spending bill proposed by the GOP, dubbing it a “criminal bill” due to what he called extravagant spending. His objections reportedly contributed to the bill’s eventual revision, allowing its passage through both chambers.
Musk has also called out the bill for adding $2.5 trillion to the budget deficit, claiming it leads to “overwhelmingly unsustainable debt” for Americans. Speaker Mike Johnson and other Trump administration officials faced backlash over the bill, which has been criticized for further increasing the national debt to $37 trillion.
