Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has cautioned Democrats regarding their plans to investigate him based on his past involvement in the Trump administration.
This reaction came after Musk read an article filled with comments from Democratic leaders indicating they would target him and his various businesses following a potential electoral win in the midterms.
He noted, “People who choose to tussle with me need to be aware—I will uncover who’s genuinely orchestrating things and go after them, not merely their puppets.”
Democrats have raised concerns for some time about potential conflicts of interest that Musk created while he was at the head of the Department of Government Efficiency.
In a post on X, the social media platform he owns, he reiterated, “People who engage in disputes with me should remember that I’ll track down the true powers behind them, and go after those who are really pulling the strings.”
He also reacted to Kara Swisher, a prominent liberal commentator, who suggested that Musk could face jail time had Kamala Harris won the 2024 presidential race.
Swisher remarked, “That would be due to various questions surrounding his different companies, not just because she’s on a vengeance mission.”
She continued, “Should Donald Trump lose control of both the House and the Senate, I’d definitely have concerns if I were him. No amount of wealth can shield him from agencies that were, ironically, a result of his own actions, many of which previously pursued investigations against him.”
To this, Musk simply responded, “Message received.”
Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal pointed out recent allegations that Musk had limited Ukraine’s access to Starlink internet, impacting critical communications during a Russian offensive.
She questioned, “What are the implications when one individual receives a massive government contract and subsequently uses it to hinder communication in a war crucial for U.S. support of Ukraine?”
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) added, “Congress requires a comprehensive accountability regarding the damages caused by Mr. Musk and DOGE, and we will not allow any obstruction of our oversight.”
Musk has not provided a response to multiple inquiries from Politico for comments.
