Johnson Addresses Spending Bill Concerns
During a segment on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) dismissed concerns that the much-anticipated spending bill might stall, despite criticisms from Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla.
Jesse Watters asked, “Is Elon going to derail the big, beautiful bill?”
“Not at all,” Johnson responded. “We’re aligned with the president’s energy. He’s making good on his promises, and ultimately, these campaign speeches translate into legislation. That’s what’s crucial. It’s about reinforcing the essential programs that many rely on.”
Watters then pointed out, “He’s not cutting spending, which is leading to debt and deficits. What’s your take?”
“Elon appears to base his views on the liberal CBO’s analysis,” Johnson replied. “They suggest that extending current tax cuts would somehow increase deficits. But that’s not additional spending; it’s providing tax relief to Americans. Everyone is aware that we’re facing the largest tax increase in U.S. history at the year’s end. What we’re aiming for is a significant reduction in spending—around $1.6 trillion. There’s never been a legislative body that has cut spending to this extent. Is it enough? Sure, I agree with Elon that we need more cuts, but such changes can’t happen overnight. This is just the beginning of our fiscal strategy to restore the country’s financial health.”
“The President is committed to this vision, and we share that belief. We are moving forward, and it all begins with this big, beautiful bill.”
