LOS ANGELES (AP) – Elton John has achieved EGOT status.
The celebrated British singer and pianist won an Emmy Award in the Best Variety Special (Live) category Monday night for his three-hour concert documentary “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” which streamed on Disney+. was awarded.
John said he is “incredibly humbled” to join the elite group of EGOT winners who have won Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tonys.
“The road to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication and the unwavering support of our fans around the world,” John, 76, said in a statement after winning the trophy.
The superstar performer has won five Grammy Awards, most recently in 2001 for “Aida with Elton John and Tim Rice.” He won two Oscars in 1994 for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in “The Lion King” and “(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again” in “Rocketman.” Tony also wrote the original score for “Aida.''
He is one of the best-selling solo artists of all time and holds the record for the best-selling physical single of all time with 1997's “Candle in the Wind,” which sold 33 million copies.

According to David Furnish, John's husband and producer of the concert special, John was overjoyed and “screamed out loud” on Monday night after winning his first Emmy Award. Mr Furnish said the “incredibly honoured” John was unable to attend the ceremony as he was recovering from recent surgery.
“We FaceTimed him. We woke him up in the middle of the night,” Furnish said backstage while holding John's award. “He's back in England. He's had his left knee replaced, which is not surprising given the number of pianos he's jumped on.”
John's concerts were a three-night stop at a stadium in Los Angeles as part of the North American leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which began in September 2018 with the first of more than 300 scheduled dates. It was the last of the series of performances. It was suspended in 2020 due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, but resumed in 2021.
His last show, which drew more than 50,000 people, featured guest appearances from a new generation of stars, including Dua Lipa and Brandi Carlyle.
The singer's special topped the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show starring Rihanna, as well as ABC's Oscars telecast, CBS' Tony Awards telecast and Netflix's “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.” Ta.
