Controversy at the Grammys: Emily Austin Reacts to Billie Eilish’s Speech
A conservative influencer stirred up attention during the Grammys with her live response to Billie Eilish’s bold “fk ICE” statement at the event.
Emily Austin, a podcaster, social media figure, and sports reporter, captured her reaction as Eilish spoke. Eilish, known for her hit “Bad Guy,” made headlines with her politically charged message during her acceptance speech for Song of the Year for her song “Wildflower.”
“I’m grateful, and I don’t think I have to – well, honestly, no one is illegally living on stolen land,” Eilish, 24, declared, creating a buzz in the audience.
It’s interesting how these moments can create such division. Austin, while filming herself, seemed taken aback, reacting with a mix of surprise and disbelief.
“It’s really tough to know what to say or do right now,” Eilish continued. “But I feel really hopeful in this room. We need to keep fighting, speaking out, and protesting. Our voices really matter, and people matter.”
Austin hilariously mimicked Eilish’s sentiment, saying, “Oh my god, I’m so edgy for saying fk ICE, hahahaha!” This clip soon caught fire online, gathering over 17 million views by the next morning, with many users showing support for Austin’s take.
“Emily, you are the best!” one viewer commented, while another critiqued, “Shouting ‘F ICE’ from a stage costs nothing and solves nothing. It ignores the reality of immigration laws.”
Interestingly, Eilish has often utilized her platform for political messages. Last November, she called on billionaires to “give money” during another acceptance speech at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards.
Following the recent shooting death of Renee Good in Minneapolis, the pop star labeled ICE as a “federally funded and supported terrorist group,” adding to the conversation’s complexity.
Austin, raised in Long Island by Israeli parents, recently announced her plan to launch a website called “Hot Girls for Cuomo” to back the New York mayoral candidate, showcasing her own political leanings.
With varying opinions surrounding Eilish’s stance and Austin’s mocking response, it’s evident that celebrity activism continues to spark heated conversations.
