Emma Raducanu easily defeats Daria Kasatkina to secure another victory on clay

Emma Raducanu Shines in Strasbourg

Emma Raducanu continued to impress on the clay courts by defeating Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the international tournament in Strasbourg.

The UK’s number two player, who recently reached the last 16 at the UK Open, showcased her skills by beating the world number 17 with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-3. It was quite a turnaround, especially since Raducanu had lost to Kasatkina in their previous three encounters.

This match served as a crucial warm-up before the French Open, kicking off this Sunday. Raducanu began with a bang, breaking her opponent’s serve right away and managing to secure five successive games to take the first set comfortably.

The second set mirrored her strong start, as she held her serve and led 2-0 early on. Although Kasatkina broke back, Raducanu continued to dominate, earning a chance to serve for the match at 5-3. However, things got a bit tense—she faced some challenges, including a couple of missed match points. But, with determination, she finally sealed the victory on her fourth chance.

“I’m really proud of the level I brought here,” Raducanu said during her on-court interview. “If I spend more time on clay, I’m starting to like it a little more. I think I’m building a relationship with the surface.”

Having entered the tournament with a late wildcard, Raducanu is set to face American Danielle Collins next, who recently triumphed over compatriot Sofia Kenin.

In a different scene at the French Open qualifiers, Harriet Dart faced a tough loss against Ukraine’s Anastasiia Sobolieva, going down 6-1, 6-2 in the first round. Sobolieva broke Dart’s serve twice in the first set, wrapping it up in just 28 minutes.

Although Dart tried to respond in the second set with a break of her own, Sobolieva remained in control, achieving a solid victory.

Meanwhile, at the ATP Geneva Open, Jacob Fianley clinched a first-round victory against Serbian wildcard Dusan Lajovic, scoring 6-4, 6-1. Fianley overcame some early serve breaks to secure the win and is now set to face fifth seed Alexei Popyrin from Australia.

Lastly, UK number three Cameron Norrie also kicked off his journey in Geneva with a win over Switzerland’s Dominic Stricker, finishing 7-6 (2), 6-3.
