Emma Watson Faces Driving Ban After Speeding Fine
Emma Watson has been banned from driving in the UK for the next six months, following a speeding ticket she received in 2024. Reportedly, she was caught going 38 mph in a 30 mph zone by a traffic camera on July 31, 2024. During a court hearing on Wednesday, it was revealed that Watson already had nine points on her license when she received this latest citation.
In addition to the driving ban, Watson has been fined nearly $1,400. It was noted that she did not attend the hearing herself, with her lawyer representing her for a brief five minutes. The lawyer stated that Watson is capable of paying the fine.
At 35 years old, Watson is currently residing in Oxford, England, while pursuing a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. She has recently expressed feelings of being “caged,” which has influenced her decision to step back from her acting career.
Previously, she mentioned having a tough time promoting projects where she felt she lacked control over the outcomes. “I began to realize that if someone was trying to give me flak about it, I was standing in front of something that could have said, ‘Yes, I ruined it; that was my decision,'” she told the Financial Times, reflecting on her experiences in the industry.
Watson rose to fame at age 11 when she took on the role of Hermione Granger in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. She continued this role until the final film was released in 2011, at which point she was 21. Since then, she’s appeared in various films, including “The Bling Ring,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and the recent “Little Women.” In 2022, she both directed and starred in a project called The Prada Paradox.
