Microsoft Layoffs Affect 6,000 Employees Globally
Microsoft has revealed plans to let go of approximately 6,000 workers, which constitutes about 3% of its entire global workforce. This drastic decision is aimed at simplifying management structures as the company pivots towards a stronger emphasis on AI integration.

A particularly poignant post appeared on Reddit, where the wife of a long-time Microsoft employee shared her husband’s experience of being laid off after 25 years with the company. What struck her was how he was “randomly selected by computer algorithms” to lose his job just days before his birthday.
She commented, “My husband worked for Microsoft for 25 years. He was just laid off and randomly selected by computer algorithms. His last day is this Friday, his 48th birthday.” It’s a situation that certainly resonates with many, considering the personal stakes involved.
She went on to explain that her husband, who has autism and multiple sclerosis, never missed a day of work despite his challenges. “I’ve never missed a day; I rarely took time off for illness, and I worked over 60 hours a week,” she said, expressing frustration at the way dedicated employees can be dismissed without a second thought.
Social media reactions have largely been sympathetic, with many pointing fingers at Microsoft for the impact these layoffs have on people’s lives. Comments ranged from “This is why no one is loyal to their employers” to sentiments implying that the tech giant is not unlike many others in how they treat their staff.
