England’s Unique Preparation for World Cup Quarter-Finals Against Norway
As England gears up for their quarter-final match against Norway, they’re not just focusing on the serious aspects of preparation. They’re also making sure to unwind and, well, have a bit of fun along the way.
This included a team diving competition that they shared on social media, which, admittedly, seemed like a daring move. After all, they recently lost a player to injury in a rather unusual way—trying to jump on a billboard during a postgame celebration.
Now, I’m not suggesting that putting captain safety at the forefront isn’t important, but diving off boards just before a big match? That feels a bit reckless. Can you even imagine that? What if someone gets hurt again? It’s unfortunate to lose a player due to a quirky billboard incident, but how about someone getting injured while trying to show off on a diving board?
Then there’s the curious case of full-back Jed Spence, who chose to wear socks in the pool. That’s quite the unconventional choice. Honestly, soggy socks? I can’t think of many things that would ruin my day more. And doing that intentionally? It’s hard to wrap my head around.
I remember a similar thing happening recently, and I’m still annoyed about it.
Maybe they thought wearing socks would give them more grip on the diving board, but surely that’s not a sound theory. If it was, wouldn’t you see all Olympic divers doing it?
It seems strange things are becoming commonplace among athletes. Just a couple of months ago, Nathan McKinnon from the Colorado Avalanche was spotted at a hotel pool wearing flippers and goggles. At least he’s avoiding injury, but I wouldn’t want to be known as the person donning goggles at the hotel pool—though, for the record, I’m not that guy.
But who knows? Perhaps this quirky diving competition is just what England needs to clinch a victory against Erling Haaland and Norway.
