England v West Indies: first cricket Test, day two – live | England v West Indies 2024

Morning! I’m at Lord’s where, I’m pleased to report, the sun is out and about. Yesterday was about two quicks: the one leaving and the one just getting started. James Anderson remains the focus but it was Gus Atkinson who tore through the West Indies lineup, finishing with astonishing figures of seven for 45. We’ll be seeing plenty more of him.

England are in a very good spot, leading by 68, with the two Yorkshiremen, Brook and Root, out in the middle. Batting conditions appear glorious. But for the sake of the Test match, it would be quite helpful if they didn’t stick around; should they go somewhat big, it’s hard to see the visitors coming back from it.

Important Events

Katie is understandably opposed here.

Tahahaha I disagree with the OBO preamble, I am truly hoping for two tons of snow for every game, plus heavy rain, which I don’t know if has anything to do with the fact that I have tickets for Saturday.

I just saw the Atkinson exhibit yesterday. This is just his second five-wicket haul in professional cricket – something he is still new to, despite being 26 years old – and this is only his 20th first-class match.

preamble

Good morning! I’m at Lord’s. The sun is out, which is a delight. Two fast bowlers dominated yesterday, one was dismissed, the other started. James Anderson continues to get the attention, but it was Gus Atkinson who dominated the West Indies batting line-up with phenomenal figures of 7 for 45. We will be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

England are in a very good position, leading by 68 runs with the Yorkshire duo Brook and Root in the middle. The batting conditions look excellent. But for the Test match it would be to their advantage if they don’t stay long. If they have a bit of a big performance it will be difficult for the visiting team to recover.

I will be here for the first half today, feel free to email me with your thoughts, questions, concerns, life advice, complicated relationships with cricketers, song requests or anything that makes you happy.
