Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race.
Biden announced in a tweet on Sunday that he would not seek reelection and endorsed Harris as his nominee. Said In a statement, she endorsed Harris’ candidacy “with great pride and boundless optimism for the future of our country,” and said her “enthusiastic endorsement” was “formal, personal and political.” (Related article: Biden’s lack of trust in Harris reportedly delayed decision to withdraw)

“Publicly, I have seen the strength and courage that Kamala Harris has shown as an advocate for working families, especially as she fights for a woman’s right to choose,” Pelosi said in a post on X. “Personally, I have known Kamala Harris for decades as a person rooted in strong values, beliefs and a commitment to public service. Politically, make no mistake, Kamala Harris is an incredibly intelligent woman in politics and I am confident she will lead us to victory in November.”
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have yet to approved Harris.

“In the Democratic Party, our diversity is our strength and our unity is our strength,” Pelosi said in the post. “Now we must move forward together, resoundingly defeat Donald Trump, and enthusiastically elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States. Let’s go to victory!”
