EPA looks into employees accused of signing a letter with their official titles

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently placed around 140 employees on administrative leave as part of an investigation concerning a letter that they allegedly signed using their official titles and positions. Officials stated that this letter contained misinformation about agency activities, which misled the public.

As the investigation continues, the EPA confirmed that 139 employees have been placed on leave. An EPA spokesperson expressed a clear stance, saying, “The Environmental Protection Agency has a zero-tolerance policy for any professional bureaucrats who have illegally undermined or obstructed the administration’s agenda.” This follows a previous action in April when the Trump administration either fired or reassigned nearly 500 EPA employees.

Administrator Lee Zeldin reported that a total of 280 employees from various divisions, including the Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights Bureau, have been let go. Additionally, 175 individuals have been reassigned. Zeldin’s efforts are a part of broader regulatory changes aimed at reducing regulations established during the Biden era, specifically targeting initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice.

While it’s reported that more than 100 employees have taken leave, it’s worth noting that the agency is staffed by thousands. The EPA has yet to offer more details regarding the situation.
