In a rather shocking turn of events, the New York tri-state area felt the strongest earthquake since 1884 on Friday, shaking the area with a magnitude of 4.8 and surprising many local residents in the process.
But what’s even more surprising? The epicenter was near Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The earth-shaking event occurred at 10:23 a.m., just a stone’s throw from a luxury golf resort.
Witnesses at President Trump’s Bedminster facility recounted their surprising experiences.
“[The] The ground was shaking very violently,” a club member told the Post.
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization said, “There was no damage to Trump Bedminster,” and declined to comment further.
Unsurprisingly, news that President Trump’s golf course was the center of seismic activity quickly spread across social media platforms.
Anna Bower, a court reporter at Law Fare, posted on X: “Wait, you mean the epicenter of the New York City earthquake was…Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster??”
She later quipped, “Is there any news that this guy hasn’t touched on?”
Republican presidential candidate Trump was at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, when the quake struck, but it’s unclear whether other members of his family were there.
The post is seeking comment.
In 2002, Trump purchased the sprawling 506-acre Lamington Farm estate.
Once a quiet stretch of land, President Trump’s vision quickly transformed it into a top-class golf course and country club.
At the time of the purchase, President Trump enthusiastically said, “Yes, I purchased it starting today.” It’s a great property and will definitely be a world class golf course. ”
The acquisition marks the latest addition to Trump’s portfolio, which already boasts golf courses in Florida and Westchester County.
The property was acquired from Connecticut-based golf course developer National Fairways, but changed hands after being auctioned off by automaker DeLorean during bankruptcy proceedings in the early 2000s.
President Trump said he purchased the property for significantly less than its list price of $35 million.
Located just 40 miles west of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the club opened in 2004 to provide a haven for its members.
Notably, it served as the backdrop for the 2009 wedding of President Trump’s daughter Ivanka and Jared Kushner, who lives on the club’s grounds.
President Trump spared no expense in expanding and enhancing the facility’s offerings. Members now have access to two 18-hole courses meticulously crafted by renowned golf architect Tom Fazio. Other amenities include a luxurious heated pool, tennis courts, and even a private helipad.
However, such exclusivity comes at a price. Trump National Golf Club’s annual membership fee is about $300,000. Nevertheless, the investment will give members reciprocal privileges at 15 other Trump clubs around the world, excluding Mar-a-Lago.
In 2014, the club received permission to build a family cemetery on the property, where Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump will be buried in 2022.
President Trump reflected on the property’s appeal in a 2015 interview with The Wall Street Journal, tweeting, “Wouldn’t you like to be buried here?”
