Epstein's Wiki Page Was Altered in Unsuccessful Effort to Eliminate 'Sex Offender' Label, Documents Reveal

Editing of Jeffrey Epstein’s Wikipedia Page in 2010

Emails released by the Department of Justice indicate that Jeffrey Epstein’s Wikipedia entry was altered in 2010 to omit references to his sex offender status and his mugshot. On November 6 of that year, an individual named “Al Seckel” communicated with Epstein, stating that Wikipedia had “all kinds of protection” for the mugshot taken by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in 2006.

In the email, Seckel mentioned they were attempting to “hack the Wiki” to remove the original photo and replace it with one that Epstein had provided, captioned: “Jeffrey Epstein, businessman, philanthropist.” This was part of a broader effort to reshape his online image.

Furthermore, the email noted that Epstein had been removed from the sex offender category on Wikipedia, and the opening line labeling him as such was eliminated. The revised version now simply identified him as a businessman and philanthropist.

According to Wikipedia’s edit history, the category “American sex offenders” was indeed removed just a day prior to Seckel’s email. However, this change was quickly reverted by another user, who pointed out that there were reliable sources backing Epstein’s sex offender status.

Seckel claimed to have logged the IP address of the person who reinstated the edits, asserting he had “actually hacked the site” to revert it back. Throughout late October and late November 2010, numerous alterations were made from the same IP address, frequently involving the deletion of information regarding Epstein’s status on the Florida Sex Offender Registry and his interactions with minors on his private island.
