Eric Adams Exits New York Mayoral Race

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his departure from the upcoming mayoral election.

This decision comes as Adams faces challenging poll numbers in light of his federal corruption case and the circumstances surrounding its dismissal under the previous Trump administration.

“This campaign was never about me. It was about the people of this city. From every neighborhood and background, who had been left behind and believed they would never catch up. This campaign was for the underserved, the marginalized, the abandoned, and betrayed by government,” Adams commented in a video detailing his decision. “Since then, it has been an honor to be your mayor.”

His announcement follows months of speculation about potential candidates dropping out of the race in order to rally support against leading socialist Democrat candidate Zohran Mamdani.

“I want to be clear, although this is the end of my campaign, this will not be the end of my public service,” Adams emphasized. “I will keep fighting for our city no matter what because I am a New Yorker.”

Adams refrained from endorsing any other contenders while seemingly criticizing Mamdani, cautioning against what he called political “extremism.”

“Our children are being radicalized to hate our city and our country. Political anger is turning into political violence,” he remarked. “Too often, these forces use local government to advance divisive agendas with little regard for how it hurts everyday New Yorkers.”

“Major change is welcome and necessary, but beware of those who claim the answer to destroy the very system we built together over generations,” Adams warned. “That is not change. That is chaos.”

Meanwhile, GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa and independent Andrew Cuomo are still in the race, facing pressure to unite behind a single candidate against Mamdani.

Polling suggests that Cuomo stands the best chance of defeating Mamdani, but only if Sliwa withdraws. Still, Sliwa’s team argues that it should be Cuomo who steps aside, given his recent loss to Mamdani in the Democratic primary.

The Trump administration has expressed strong opposition to Mamdani’s policies, which include rent freezes, free bus services, and city-operated grocery stores.

“You can’t enact policies like this and expect to be bailed out,” stated Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, warning that Mamdani’s proposals could lead to a significant financial crisis in New York City.
