New York City mayor Eric Adams announced he would run for reelection as an independent, but the incumbent told Fox News that Democrats have “departed” him.
In an interview on “My Views with Lara Trump,” which airs Saturday, Adams explained that he focuses on the idea of ”common sense” and fighting for “everyday New Yorkers Want.”
“People say you know you left the Democrats – you know, the party left me,” Adams said. “I want to talk about what working class people believe, what they feel, and what they fear. We can’t remain as philosophical and intelligent as we speak on the heads of those who fear.”

One of these “common sense” problems is that Adams is “in line with the New Yorker.”
New York City was one of many sanctuary cities that bear the brunt of the surge in illegal immigration under the Biden administration. Adams took the heat of handling the crisis, but he was also a critic of the previous administration’s immigration policy.
As of February, there were “up to 69,000 in January 2024, fewer than 45,000 immigrants,” according to the Adams office. New York City taxpayers have driven out potential billions of dollars to pay for the homes of more than 232,000 people who have arrived in New York City since the spring of 2022.
“It shouldn’t have been our problem and it was very difficult to deal with it, but we did, and it will have a long-term impact on our city,” Adams warned.

Adams recently signed an executive order to allow Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to return to Rikers Island Prison. The move, encouraged by the Trump administration, faces legal action from the Democrat-controlled city council in New York City.
The mayor defended Ice’s return to Riker during an interview with Fox News Host Lara Trump.
“I also respect the law, but the areas where we can chase the dangerous gang members we are imprisoned and the dangers they produce on Rikers Island can also flood our community. I have not apologized for that, and I am not going to abandon my authority to keep New Yorkers safe,” he said, adding that the distant tale around the ice is one of the “big mistakes” of the party.
Adams expressed his support for the Trump administration’s approach to immigration, explaining that his willingness to work with GOP executives was based on his goal of “respect” for the office and “producing” New Yorkers outcomes.
“I believe what we have to do is what is going on under this. [Trump] Management, we have borders, so cities don’t have to deal with the federal issues we see in many major cities,” Adams said.
“I respect the office. I have a president called President Trump. I’m going to work with that president and produce for the people of our city because I respect the office.”
