New York City Mayor Eric Adams (Democratic) is scheduled to meet with President-elect Trump in Florida on Friday, just days before Trump's inauguration next week, according to Adams' aides.
“Tomorrow, Mayor Adams will meet with President-elect Trump to discuss priorities for New Yorkers,” Fabian Levy, a spokesperson for Mayor Adams, said Thursday. post “The mayor looks forward to a productive conversation with the president-elect about how we can move our city and country forward.”
In December, Adams met with Trump's next “border czar,” Tom Homan. Adams said at a news conference after the meeting that the two share a common goal of preventing “repeated acts of violence by dangerous individuals in cities across America.”
After an hour-long meeting, Adams emphasized that New York City protects the rights of immigrants who are “working hard and truly giving back to our city.”
“Mayor Adams has clearly demonstrated his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and the incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers, and our partnership with the federal government is essential to New York City’s success,” Levy said. .
Adams was indicted on federal fraud and bribery charges in September last year. He denies any wrongdoing and maintains his innocence. He is scheduled to go on trial in April.
Asked about the federal charges in mid-December, Trump said he thought “he was treated very unfairly” and said he would consider pardoning Adams.
President Trump met with another Democrat at Mar-a-Lago in recent days. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) and the president-elect met at Mar-a-Lago this past weekend. President Trump described the meeting as “engaging” and characterized the freshman senator as a “common sense guy.”
