“I feel really good,” Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde said Sunday about his race against Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.).
“Look, I feel really good about how the race is going,” Hovde told NewsNation's Chris Stilwald on “The Hill Sunday.” “As you can probably see, there's a lot of attention on this state right now. Wisconsin is a key battleground state. Whoever wins has a good chance of winning the presidency.
“If I win, you know, it will change control of the United States Senate, not just for the next two years, but probably for the next four years,” Hovde added.
Mr. Baldwin currently leads Mr. Hovde by 4.2 percentage points, according to The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters' Wisconsin polling average.
“Some polls show I'm one point ahead of Donald Trump,” Hovde said in an interview Sunday.
“By the way, remember, Wisconsin was six to seven points behind Donald Trump in 2016, and about six points behind him in 2020. [lot of] … We will focus on opinion polls,” Hovde added.
The race between Mr. Hovde and Mr. Baldwin is one of the few important Senate races between Democrats and Republicans this year, with Democrats hoping to maintain control of the Senate and Republicans hopes to regain it.
A Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday showed Mr. Baldwin leading Mr. Hovde by 7 points, winning 53% of the vote among registered voters and prospective voters to Mr. Hovde's 46%.
The Hill has reached out to Baldwin's camp.
