Confrontation at Swalwell Town Hall
California Congressman Eric Swalwell faced some tough questions during a recent town hall in Orange County, where he announced his candidacy for governor. One notable moment occurred when musician Tish Hyman challenged him about his stance on biological males participating in women’s spaces.
Hyman, posting a video on X, shared a past encounter in a gym locker room with a biological male. She pressed Swalwell to reconsider his statement that this was not a “problem” and to clarify his plans if he were to be elected.
Swalwell, hinting at his experience as a former prosecutor, said, “I won’t be in an administration that tolerates violence against women.” He tried to address the topic of transgender individuals in sports. However, Hyman interjected, noting his usage of “men.” The congressman acknowledged her point with a simple, “Of course.”
Hyman was persistent, stating that women-only spaces are critical and recalling Swalwell’s previous reassurances that harassment wouldn’t occur. “I want all the women of California to show us that you’re going to protect us,” she urged.
“I’m going to protect women,” Swalwell reiterated, underscoring his past as a prosecutor. “No woman should be harassed in a locker room.”
However, Hyman pressed further, asking if he would permit biological males in women’s spaces if he became governor. “Women shouldn’t be harassed in the locker room. It’s a crime,” he responded, but didn’t clearly answer her question.
Hyman pointed out the serious implications of the situation, claiming, “It’s happening all over America.” She expressed concern over the presence of biological males in women’s prisons and their alleged actions, emphasizing that the focus should be on protecting women regardless of party lines.
She continued, highlighting the urgency of prioritizing women’s safety. “Open your eyes… If you want to be governor, you need to do something about this,” she said, making it clear this was not a passing issue.
The public discourse intensified after Hyman gained attention from a viral encounter at Gold’s Gym, where she confronted a biological male in the women’s locker room, leading to her membership cancellation afterward.
Prior to her exchange with Swalwell, Hyman had also confronted Democratic state Senator Scott Wiener regarding the same topic at an event, emphasizing the need for women’s protection in these matters. Wiener has maintained that both trans women and women should be safe in shared spaces.
Hyman’s message was straightforward: “Women should have privacy and safety in our spaces. Biological males should not be allowed in women’s restrooms or locker rooms. This isn’t political; it’s common sense.”
