Eric Trump on Political Future and Family Legacy
Eric Trump has left the door open regarding his father’s potential run for a third presidential term in 2028. During an appearance on “Pod Force One,” he also hinted about the possibility of his own candidacy, emphasizing family ambition in the political arena.
When asked about the significance of the “Trump 2028” cap, Eric indicated it wasn’t solely about Donald Trump; it might include him or Don Jr. as well. “I think you have a different Republican Party now, a more militant one,” he stated, noting the shift since the Bush and McCain eras.
He reflected on how his father taught many to fight politically, highlighting an evolution in their approach due to necessity. “We’ve really gotten good, right? We had to either fight for ourselves or risk losing,” he shared, mentioning the burden of scrutiny faced by political candidates today.
Discussing his own political prospects, Eric said, “If I have no other choice and things get worse, I will do it.” However, he expressed relief at being able to step back from politics for the moment, enjoying his job in Washington, D.C.
With Democrats already indicating interest in a more formal investigation should they regain the House in 2026, Eric noted that it could center around the substantial income the Trump family has earned from cryptocurrencies this year.
He explained their venture into crypto, saying they felt they had no choice due to being “debanked” by major financial institutions. Eric also addressed how attacks on his father, including the infamous mugshot from his booking at Fulton County Jail, could unexpectedly bolster a campaign. “It’s ironic that the adversity can sometimes lead to more support from minority communities,” he remarked.
On a more serious note, Eric shared his frustration over the investigation into an assassination attempt against his father, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity about the motives behind the shooter, who survived the incident. “I’m still really upset about it,” he admitted. The investigation has left a lot of questions unanswered, particularly regarding national security implications.
Family Conversations and Legacy
President Trump previously expressed confidence in his children’s futures in politics, suggesting a strong family legacy going forward.
In a lighter moment, Eric described how he had some fun by adding “2028” to his father’s signature red hat, which stirred media speculation about constitutional implications.
While some of Trump’s allies have floated the idea of a strategic ticket swap for 2028, the former president himself dismissed the notion, saying it wasn’t right and that it wouldn’t resonate with the public.
