Attorney Charlie Kirk promotes death penalty trial

As Erica Kirk heads back to college campuses for the first semester since the tragic loss of her husband, Charlie Kirk, she urges conservative students to stay strong and continue the movement he established back in 2012.
Following the assassination of her husband at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, Erica assumed leadership of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and shared a heartfelt message on Instagram aimed at students embarking on a new school year.
She cautioned that conservative and Christian students may encounter hostility in academic settings, yet she firmly stated, “We must not retreat from our campus activities.”
Erica emphasized that while students could face challenges, it’s crucial not to give in. “Are we just going to stop our activities? Or will we press on?” she asked. The answer, she affirmed, is to continue their efforts.
Pointing to her husband’s legacy of bravery, Erica remarked, “Charlie dedicated himself to a life defined by courage.” She encouraged others to embrace this same spirit, even when the outcome is uncertain. He often stressed that true courage involves taking the right step, no matter the consequences.
Erica reflected on how Charlie intentionally engaged with diverse perspectives on college campuses, seeking dialogue over merely addressing those who agreed with him.
“Charlie craved conversation. He wanted to challenge you,” she said, reaffirming the mission to promote meaningful discussion and the courage to stand firm in one’s beliefs, rather than simply echoing popular opinions.
Having founded TPUSA to champion conservatism across college campuses, Charlie was killed while addressing an audience of over 2,000 at a TPUSA event, leaving behind Erica and their two children.
Despite the tragedy, Erica believes her husband’s assassination has not derailed the student-led movement he initiated. “What was intended to undermine our mission has, if anything, strengthened it,” she expressed, highlighting the emergence of new TPUSA chapters and a surge in student activism, including voter registration and campus events.
Yet, she acknowledged the emotional toll of starting a new school year without Charlie’s presence, stating, “It’s still incredibly hard to begin this journey without him.” Nevertheless, she feels guided by the blueprint he left behind and is committed to the mission they shared.
Currently, Tyler Robinson, who is alleged to have shot Charlie, has not entered a plea. Following a preliminary hearing, a decision is anticipated from Judge Tony Graf Jr. on September 1 regarding whether there is adequate probable cause to proceed with a trial against Robinson.
