Erica Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, shared the heartbreaking reality that her young daughter is still asking about her “daddy” nearly two months after his assassination.
In her first emotional television interview since the tragedy, she transformed her 3-year-old’s poignant question into a teachable moment. Speaking with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, she explained, “It’s really sweet because I keep explaining some things to her. I tell her, ‘If you ever want to talk to daddy, just look up at the sky and start talking; he’ll hear you.’
With tears in her eyes, she recounted telling her daughter, “Daddy’s in heaven,” to which the child innocently replied, “Do you think you’ll ever get there?”
Erica comforted her, responding, “Babe, we’re all going to go sometime.”
Charlie and Erica Kirk had two young children—a son who celebrated his first birthday in May and a daughter who turned three in August.
Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was killed after being shot in the neck by Tyler Robinson during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.
During the interview, Watters mentioned that Erica had briefly held on to hope for Charlie’s survival, but reality hit hard when she visited him in the hospital.
At her husband’s funeral, Erica reminisced about seeing a “grin” on Charlie’s face, which brought her some comfort, leading her to believe he didn’t suffer in his final moments.
“We walked into the room, and he had this grin on his face,” she recalled. “That laugh to me is a look that says, ‘Did you think you could stop what I built? Did you think you could end this movement by killing me?'”
“You took my body, but not my soul,” she added.
The shocking assassination, captured on various cameras and shared across social media, has heightened concerns about political violence in the country.
Robinson, 22, was apprehended shortly after and faces charges of aggravated murder and related offenses. If convicted, he could face the death penalty by firing squad.
Watters’ full interview with Erica Kirk is set to air tonight on Jesse Watters Primetime at 8 p.m. “I almost cried several times when she talked about the kids,” he reflected. “You can feel Charlie Kirk’s spirit in Erica. It’s a real force.”
